The Infernaccio gorges and the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Ambro
ACTIVE NATURE & SPIRITUALITY
The Infernaccio is one of the most suggestive and evocative places on the Versante della Magia whose toponym recalls the many fantastic and legendary stories that have always characterized these mountains together with the Passo delle Streghe, the narrowest point of the gorge where the walls almost narrow to close.
The Gorge was cut by the Tenna River between the Sibilla and Priora Mountains , creating a "fissure" through the rock at the entrance of which the perennial dripping of the "Pisciarelle" appears and then opening up to splendid woods including the San Leonardo beech forest which in autumn offers a wonderful foliage.
The pleasant ascent of the lively and "sparkling" watercourse through the woods of the path that runs alongside it then leads to its source of Capotenna .
In the gorge from which the Ambro torrent descends, at the end of the road that goes up from Montefortino towards the Sibillini, insinuating itself between Monte Priora and Monte Amandola, you reach the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Ambro . Of very ancient origin and linked to the miracle of the mute shepherdess who every day left flowers in the trunk of a tree and one day regained her speech, it has been remodeled and expanded over time to its current form, becoming the small Lourdes of the Marche .
The interior preserves some interesting paintings representing the Sibyls in relation to the mythological figure that most identifies the area and finds its origin in the famous cave that opens onto the mountain of the same name which gives its name to the entire group.
