CAVALCATA DELL'ASSUNTA - Edition 2018
Il Palio della Cavalcata dell'Assunta - City of Fermo
Il Palio dell'Assunta is an ancient event that takes place annually in the city of Fermo and focuses on the homonymous Cavalcata dell'Assunta. Reachable in just a few minutes from the Girasole camping village, the event is considered the oldest Palio in Italy, as it was born in 1182.
The investiture of the priors of the district, comes through a ceremony in which the armies of the City carry a wooden box in the town square from which the selected cocoons will be extracted which will administer the district and in turn the city for the year to to come.
It is an event that takes place on August 15th in the city of Fermo , where the typical horse race will take place and to follow the victory is celebrated with tasting of typical local dishes, evening performances of dances, songs and music and finally the subscription extraction at prizes.
There will be many events: the exhibition of flag-wavers of the Contrade, the archery contest between Contrade, the tug-of-war contest between Contrade, the draw for the combination of the Palio delle Contrade horses and the spectacle of musicians and flag bearers of the Cavalcata dell'Assunta.
On the evening of August 14th there will be a magnificent historical procession in 15th century costume and the liturgy of the word with the blessing of the Palio officiated by the Archbishop of Fermo.
